Hi, I'm Gavin, a wedding photojournalist based in Newport, Shropshire.
My style of wedding photography could also be described as reportage or documentary wedding photography. Whatever you prefer to call it, essentially it is the art of storytelling through images.
My discreet approach allows you to enjoy every moment of your wedding day with your family and friends, with the minimum of interruption. There will be no cheesy grins or forced smiles and definitely no soft focus filters! It will just be me and my camera photographing your wedding as it happens naturally.
I’m an award winning photojournalist with more than fifteen years experience photographing high profile news and sports stories who now chooses to photograph weddings. I was one of a handful of accredited photographers outside the doors of Westminster Abbey at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This, perhaps unsurprisingly, is my most high profile wedding to date!
There are few situations I haven't had to cope with, from being on assignment with the British army in Northern Kenya to struggling to look through my viewfinder after tear gas had been fired during rioting at the Euro football championships. The diversity of my experiences whilst working as a news photojournalist have made me into the photographer that I am today.
Storytelling is right at the heart of my wedding photojournalism and you can view my wedding portfolio by clicking here.
Your images will be a true reflection of the greatest day of your life...
I would love to tell the story of your wedding. Your day will be unique and there will be so many memories for me to capture. The story will unfold in front of me, typically from the bridal preparations until the party is in full swing shortly after your first dance.
In years to come, the photographs from your wedding will be the biggest reminder of your wedding day. My style is authentic and won't date. I photograph in a mixture of colour and black and white and wherever possible use natural light and usually only use flash during the dancing.
I'm a wedding photojournalist but I understand that weddings are family occasions and some group shots are wanted. Of course I'm happy to take these but I would suggest they're kept to a minimum in line with my style of photography. I will work quickly during the group shots and it often helps if the ushers are able to help out.
I'm a Shropshire wedding photographer but I photograph weddings across the UK and travel to mainland UK weddings is included.
Just A Little Bit More…
When I’m not photographing or editing weddings, I can often be found pacing the streets with my camera capturing moments of everyday life. I draw inspiration from photographers such as Martin Parr, Bruce Davidson, Bruce Gilden and Elliott Erwitt. I have had two solo exhibitions and I am currently working on a new project which should be completed in 2017
Away from photography, I am married to Jessie and have two amazing little boys and I am currently restoring a couple of vintage Volkswagen Beetles. I also have a growing collection of old Nikon film cameras!
My wedding coverage starts at £1200. For weekday weddings, please contact me for a quote.
If you would like to contact me about wedding photography in Shropshire or elsewhere in the UK, I would love to hear from you.
Your day will be amazing. Don't let a moment of it get away...
